Compared to the last book I read for this series, I am disappointed. Which is shocking because a lot of people like this book more than the previous one (Crown of Midnight).

To me this one could've easily been a novella. Maybe not a short novella, but just not a full fleshed novel. A lot of this book felt unnecessary and I'll be honest, I got so bored that I skimmed the last third of the book. This book also took me ages to read, for a lot of different reasons, so that could also be part of the reason I disliked it. But even then, I still don't think it would've been a five star read or anything. This book just felt like a way to progress and develop the characters and not the plot. The plot was dragging forward so slowly throughout the entire book and then mildly picked up right at the end, but even then it was only semi-interesting to me.

I just wanted more from this. I am still planning to continue with the series but I might take a break before I go on to the next book.
